In 1958 Donald Begg, his wife Phyllis, and their two sons Gerald and Larry moved from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. In 1960 Donald started Donald Begg Construction with the goal of being known for his honesty and skilled craftsmanship. After a few years Larry started to take an interest in the family business. By the time he was 16 years old the company had been renamed as Donald & Larry Begg Construction.
In 1976 Larry took over the company. Larry’s goals remain the same as his father’s goals, to be known as an honest, skilled craftsman. In 1995 Larry’s son Colin started working in the business and the company name changed to Begg Construction.
Larry is the General Contractor and Lead Carpenter. He received his Carpentry Journeyman Certificate in 1980 and additionally holds certificates in Unsmoke Procedures; Water Damage Restoration; and Velux Roof, Window & Skylight Installation. Larry has worked on projects in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland.
Under Larry’s oversight, Begg Construction has completed commercial hotel and cottage projects, and has worked extensively with TimberHart and Kuhns Brothers Log Homes, building houses and show homes in Cape Breton.
Larry and his wife live in Balls Creek, NS.
Colin is our 2nd Lead Carpenter under our general contractor, Larry. Colin has been with the company part time since 1993 and full time since 1995. He completed his apprenticeship in 1999 and received his Red Seal Carpentry Journeyman Certificate in 2000. He has experience in framing, exterior and interior finish, and is the hardwood stair installer. He has worked on projects across the Maritimes. Colin’s easy-going nature is matched by his desire and demand to complete every stage of a project in a timely manner with quality being the focus.
Born and raised in Cape Breton, Colin lives in Balls Creek with his wife and two sons.
